3️⃣ Reasons Why We Need To Understand + Love Our Bodies
While there is a lot of information out there that is based on research and facts, there is also a lot of fitness hoop-la. And none of it is going to matter unless you understand how the human body works and also know and understand YOUR own body.
There are key factors that you must keep in mind when learning to know your own body:
1. We are all made different.
Some people will develop larger leg muscles more quickly, while others will have an easier time getting abs.
Some people will be able to easily increase their mileage each week, while others will make advances faster in the weight room.
This doesn’t mean that, just because your body naturally may be better at one thing, you cannot work hard to see the results in another area. It may just take a little more time and effort.
2. Comparison is the thief of joy.
Comparing ourselves to others usually results in feeling defeated or not good enough.
Instead of comparing yourself to that crazy runner next to you, compare yourself to the old you who was on the couch last week! It’s YOU vs YOU!
3. YOU know you best
There is only one you. Only one person has your unique set of DNA.
I truly believe that the success to any fitness or weight-loss program lies in a person’s ability to understand the human body – and, more importantly, his or her own body, abilities, and self.
Things are not always cut and dry: Eat this not that, workout this way and not that way…
Our bodies change with time and research findings frequently change the way that we view things. We need to be able to keep up with these changes and understand our bodies in different stages. This is something I’ve personally learned post-partum. I had to change my approach on nutrition and fitness to accommodate the changes my body made.
We need to be educated in the health and fitness field instead of seeking the quick fixes. Quick fixes are not sustainable. I know as a society, we want things “here and now”, but slow and steady wins the race!
