We live in a society where overeating is a common, everyday occurrence. We often feed our bodies much more than we need to and miss our bodies’ cues. Here are few simple tips that you can follow to help you lose weight by eating less:
? Slow down – eat slower at every meal by putting your fork down in between bites. Chew slower to make sure that you’re enjoying every bite.
?️Use a smaller plate – in a culture where we have so many supersized things, try to use smaller plates to serve your meals on.
? Treat yourself- sounds counterintuitive, but the more you restrict yourself, the more you’re likely to binge later on. Allow yourself the occasional treat! Treating yourself also does not have to mean eating. It can mean taking time for you to enjoy the little things that make you happy.
? Fill up on fiber- A study at Brigham Young University showed that over a two-year study, people who increased their fiber intake generally lost weight and those who decreased, gained weight.
? Sleep! Try to get as close to 8 hours of sleep as you can. A study by Harvard University showed that missing an hour or two of sleep may make you more likely to crave junk food the next day.
Think of yourself as maximizing “primary food” – feed yourself with joy, learning, adventure, sleep, love, etc. These are inedible things that we should try to consume on a daily basis, and bonus, they will automatically help us avoid overeating. The lack of some of these things, causes us to over-consume “edible” food.
